We would like to personally welcome our incoming new students and parents/guardians to Skinner Middle School. The Skinner staff is thrilled that you have selected our school to begin the important life passage of middle school. This is a critical stage in a student’s life and it begins to shape who s/he becomes in the future. During your student’s time as a Skinner Scholar we will ensure that each student is academically prepared for high school and college options, as well as support her/him through this adolescent transition. Students will also be able to participate in a host of Core+ (elective) courses, clubs, sports, activities, and make life-long friendships during their time at Skinner.
We have a lot of information to share with you, please read the letter carefully! We have an Incoming 6th Grader Family Orientation and a fun online social event planned for our incoming families. If you are unable to attend either event, they will be recorded. Please mark your calendars.
Incoming 6th Grader Family Remote Orientation – Thursday, May 6, 7 – 8 pm. We will provide valuable information including School Calendar, Policies & Procedures, Registration & Fees and Chromebooks at the meeting, please plan to attend. If you are unable to attend Orientation, the meeting will be recorded.
Welcome to Skinner Spring Fling – Monday, May 10, 7-8 pm. Please join via Google Meet meet.google.com/cuz-ahmf-rhe or join by phone: +1 513-813-6439 (PIN: 517611766). All of our new 6th graders are invited to join Skinner staff and current students for this fun, interactive online event.
Skinner Core+ (Elective) Course Interest Form: At Skinner, families/students don’t select their Core+ classes, however we would like to gauge your interest in our different offerings. Please CLICK HERE and complete the short Core+ Interest Form for your incoming 6th grade student. PLEASE NOTE: Recommendations for Honors and/or accelerated courses are obtained from students’ current teachers.
2021-22 Online DPS Registration: There are two opportunities for Online Registration: Early Bird from April 26 – May 21 and again July 26 – August 14. CLICK HERE (https://skinner.dpsk12.org/2021-22-registration/) for all of the details.
Please make sure you have the following documents which may be required for Registration: your child’s birth certificate; proof of address (Xcel or water bill, mortgage statement or rental lease) and your child’s immunization record (Tdap immunization needed at age 11).
Skinner Gear For Sale: We have great Skinner t-shirts, sweatshirts and socks for sale in kid and adult sizes. If you would like to shop for Skinner gear, please come by the main office (3435 W. 40th Ave) anytime Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 3 pm.
6th Grade Academy: Skinner is pleased to offer 6th Grade Academy to our new 6th graders. 6th Grade Academy is Tuesday – Thursday, August 10-12 from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. At 6th Grade Academy, students will learn to navigate the building, learn new systems and expectations of Skinner, meet their teachers and start to build new friendships. Attendance at 6th Grade Academy is extremely strongly encouraged. Please reach out to Rebecca_Caldwell@dpsk12.org and let us know if your student is unable to attend for any reason.
Skinner follows the DPS calendar. The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, August 24, 2021 due to 7th Grade Academy on Aug. 23. We are looking forward to providing a smooth transition for our incoming students to Skinner Middle School. Thank you for supporting your child’s middle school success.
