Remote Learning Attendance Update

Posted May 6, 2020

Greetings Skinner Families,

Thank you for your immense efforts to support your students during this time.

Because new processes can be a challenge, students were initially given an unlimited grace period to submit attendance if they missed the 3pm daily deadline.

As they demonstrate growing proficiency with remote learning, we have confidence that our Skinner Scholars are now capable of submitting their attendance on time, for every class, every day. Therefore, starting Monday, May 11, students will continue to be required to check in to every class, every day, yet will have a limited grace period of 24 hours in the event they are unable to check in on time. Students submitting late attendance must do so through Google Classroom or Schoology AND must email their teacher so teachers are aware of late submissions awaiting processing. Attendance will no longer be adjusted retroactively for submissions after 3pm the following day.

Even though we allow up to 24 hours, we ask that students please submit their attendance on time, the same day in order to allow teachers to prioritize their correspondence for instruction and academics. If a student is unable to login due to unforeseen circumstances such as a family emergency, medical or legal obligations, technical issues or illness, please notify the Skinner main office staff right away at 720-424-1420. If a student is experiencing technical difficulties for a particular class, please reach out to that teacher so that they may facilitate any necessary troubleshooting. For general technical difficulties, please notify the main office staff.

If your household receives the automated attendance messenger or if a student is unsure if they missed an attendance submittal, missed classes can be viewed in the Student/Parent Portal by first clicking “Attendance Detail” on the top left, then clicking “Missed Classes” toward the bottom.

Thank you for your continued patience and support amid these unprecedented circumstances.

FAQs

Q: If a student completes work but does not check in, can the teacher just mark them as present?

A: No. Teachers are instructed to only use the Attendance Question platform so they may reserve email correspondence for assisting students with academics as much as possible.

Q: I received the attendance messenger, but I don’t know what class my student missed.

A: Missed classes can be viewed in the Student/Parent Portal by first clicking “Attendance Detail” on the top left, then clicking “Missed Classes” toward the bottom and selecting the date in question from the calendar. https://myportal.dpsk12.org/

Q: I can’t log in to Parent Portal. How can I view my student’s missed classes?

A: If you are unable to log in after clicking “Forgot Username” and “Forgot Password”, you can reach out to the DPS Portal Team at dotshelp@dpsk12.org  or you may temporarily view the same information via the Student Portal by logging in with your student’s credentials.

Q: I witnessed my student submit their attendance. Why did I still receive the attendance messenger?

A: You can view which classes students missed in the Parent/Student Portal and check in with the corresponding teacher to verify there are no technical issues or missed steps in the attendance submittal process.

Q: My student is marked absent for the same class every day, but is submitting attendance.

A: Not all teachers use the same system for attendance. Please check in with the corresponding teacher to make sure there are no missed steps or technical issues in the attendance process.

Q: My student is very stressed out with remote learning and the confusion around attendance is adding to the pressure.

A: Our Skinner Support Staff is still committed and eager to be there for our students, especially during times such as these. Please reach out to the Skinner main office and one of our restorative coordinators, counselors, deans or social workers will reach out to you.

Q: My circumstance has changed and my household will not have access to the internet for an extended period of time.

A: Please notify the Skinner main office by calling 720-424-1420 and leave a voicemail. A Skinner staff member will reach out to you.
