Skinner’s College4Y.O.U. visit to the CU Anschutz Medical Center

Skinner’s College4Y.O.U. visited the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015. Thirty-eight students and two parents attended the visit which was hosted by the Office of Inclusion and Outreach at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The students enjoyed breakfast and lunch as well as two fun and informative research-focused sessions.

One session focused on DNA. The students learned about what DNA is then proceeded to extract and examine DNA samples. Then, they (deliciously) got to construct their own DNA models out of twizzlers and gummy bears.

In the other session, the students learned about viruses and infectious diseases and how they are spread. Afterward, they conducted a research lab where they learned how to track the spread of infections.

The students greatly enjoyed and learned a lot in both sessions. The students, College 4 Y.O.U. staff and parents were all very impressed with the sessions and appreciate all the planning on the part of both the CU Anschutz Medical Campus staff and Office of Inclusion and Outreach.
