Donate your used Skinner/dress code gear!

Hello Families –

Wondering what to do with that Skinner gear that your child no longer needs due to moving on to high school or because of outgrowing the item?  Skinner keeps a bank of clothing in case a student is in need of a loaner for the day.

Bring your old Skinner gear to the main office for another student to use! We can also use blue, black and grey women’s sizes jeans, Trapper Keepers and boys/men’s belts.

Please bring items your child no longer needs to the front office.  Thank you!

Skinner’s Largest Fundraiser – Volunteer Today!

Dear Skinner Families –
Skinner’s largest fundraiser of the year is the Jewels of Highlands Home Tour, sponsored by Nostalgic Homes. The 2017 tour raised over $35,000 and due to Nostalgic Homes’ generous sponsorship, 100% of the funds raised come directly to Skinner.
The 2018 Jewels tour is Saturday, September 29, 2018 from Noon – 4 pm. We need a few volunteers to join the Tour planning committee to help with: selling ads in the tour booklet, tour logistics, tour publicity and volunteer coordination.
Please email Tour Chairpersons: Skinner PTO President Nicole Kazenske at nicole@cmbarch.com or Skinner Mktg/Communications Director Rebecca Caldwell at rebecca_caldwell@dpsk12.org if you’re interested in joining the Jewels tour planning committee.
Our first planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13 at 7 pm at Nostalgic Homes located at 3737 West 32nd Avenue. We’d love to have you join us!
Nicole and Rebecca
PS – please save the date of September 29 from Noon-4 pm for the tour. We need LOTS of day-of volunteers to make sure the event runs smoothly. We also encourage all of our community to attend the tour with friends and family!

Estimadas familias de la Escuela Secundaria Skinner/Dear Skinner Middle School Families:

April 2, 2018

Dear Skinner Middle School Families,

Our principal, Michelle Koyama, has announced that at the end of the school year, she will transition out of the Skinner Middle School principal role into the role of executive principal of the Skinner and Lake Middle School partnership. Michelle has been a valuable part of the Skinner family for 10 years, and she will now be able to impact more students and families in Denver’s northwest neighborhoods. We thank Ms. Koyama for her valuable contributions, dedication and successful leadership at Skinner Middle School.

We are excited to announce that Principal Grant Varveris will be the new principal of Skinner Middle School starting at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. He will work closely with Ms. Koyama to carry on the Skinner community values and instructional leadership model.

Mr. Varveris comes to Skinner with 20 years of experience working as a principal, assistant principal and teacher. For the last seven years, he has been a school leader within Denver Public Schools. He is currently the principal of University Park Elementary School and has served in this role for the last three years. Prior to that, Mr. Varveris worked as assistant principal at both William (Bill) Roberts K-8 School and Oakland Elementary School.

Before coming to Denver, Mr. Varveris lived in Illinois where he taught students in grades three through eight before ascending to the role of assistant principal at Eberhart Elementary School in Chicago. In these roles, Mr. Varveris helped communities, schools and students achieve maximum success by focusing both on overall school culture and rigorous personalized instruction. Principal Varveris will use this experience to support the current and future work of the Skinner Middle School community.

Mr. Varveris will be attending several events at Skinner in the next upcoming months. Please know that while he is excited to be a part of the Skinner family, he also must make sure and fulfill his current role at University Park. Please feel free to connect with Mr. Varveris at Grant_Varveris@dpsk12.org.

Thank you for your continued support of Skinner Middle School. We are committed to ensuring Principal Varveris and Skinner have the support, resources and tools to help all students and educators succeed. Please join me in welcoming this talented new leader to the Skinner family.
