6th Annual Skinner Fall Festival – Oct. 10, 10 am – 2 pm

The 6th Annual Skinner Fall Festival is coming up on Saturday, October 10 from 10 am – 2 pm.
This free, family-friendly event offers fun for the whole community.
Food  •  Games  •  Prizes  •  Activities  •  Silent Auction  •  Supervised swimming in Skinner’s Indoor Pool
and lots, lots more.
All proceeds benefit Skinner student athletics and activities.  We’ll see you there!

Skinner wins 2nd in the Slavens Invite!

Slavens Invite hosts over 1600 Middle School Runners!

The Slavens Invite was all that it was billed to be on Friday, September 11th at Harvard Gulch Park in Southeast Denver.

In the girls meet, the team title went to the McAuliffe girls with 132 points followed by Skinner and in third position was Stanley BPS. Winning the teams titles for the boys meet were the host team Storm of Slavens with 100 points followed by St. Vincent with 102 points and in third place the McAuliffe Sun Devils.

For the girls – Evie Philllips came in 7th, Esther Cornish took 10th and Isla Anderson came in 13th!  Gavin Shary took 10th among boys!  WAY TO GO!

Over 1,600 middle school kids enjoyed perfect weather in completing the 1.8 mile course that offered creek crossings, hills and a course lined with American Flags to honor the memory of the people killed in the September 11th attacks on the US. A moment of silence was observed by the over 5,000 fans and participants, as a soft rendition of TAPS was played.

Jewels of Highlands Home Tour Fundraiser – October 3rd, Noon – 4 pm

Skinner PTO is thrilled to announce that the annual Jewels of Highlands Home Tour, sponsored by Nostalgic Homes, will benefit Skinner this year!  This fundraiser could raise well over $15,000 for Skinner and 100% of the funds will be used for Chromebook computers for our students.

The Home Tour will feature 6 incredible homes in the Berkeley neighborhood.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $15 for seniors, and $25 on the day of the tour.  Click here for lots more information.  Tickets are on sale now:

Parenting Partners Workshops begin Oct. 1!

The Parenting Partners workshop series begins Thursday, October 1, 6-8 pm.. Our goal is for these sessions is to serve as a guide as our parents navigate the journey of raising their children.  The sessions will be co-facilitated by Mr. Waldon, Skinner Social Worker, and Elvia Lubin, Skinner Parent Liaison.  Both are committed to supporting our school community to help parents become vital contributors to their children’s success.

You may attend as many sessions as possible.  Sessions run 6 – 8 pm and take place in the 2nd floor PDC training room at Skinner.

Skinner Washington DC & Philadelphia Student Trip – May, 2016

Mr. Dehning (8th Grade Social Studies) leads our student trip to WASHINGTON, D.C. & PHILADELPHIA every other year.  The next trip is coming up May, 2016. This will be Mr. Dehning’s fourth time leading the Skinner trip.  The trip is open to Skinner 7th and 8th graders only.

PARENT MEETING: Your student will be bringing home information and we will have a question and answer session for families on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00 pm at Skinner Middle School.


Discover the inner workings of our government in Washington, D.C., with visits to the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court. Then see how it all started in Philadelphia, where the Founding Fathers gathered to adopt the Declaration of Independence.

Denver Public Schools is offering $20 Sports Physicals at Skinner on Tuesday, September 22nd from 5-8 pm.  The cost is $20 and appointments must be made in advance through Donna Wingo at 720-423-4240.

Entry Fees: Registration is $5 and will support the Colfax Elementary Chess Club. Send registration in by October 7.

Divisions: K-2 grade, 3-4 grade, 5-6 grade, and 7-12 grade (this in a non-rated tournament, USCF membership is not required) Age sections may be combined or modified if necessary

Times: Check-in 8:30-9:00 a.m. Player meeting (all competitors must attend) at 9:15 a.m. Four games – First game is at 9:30 a.m. This is a non-elimination tournament – all players will participate in four rounds. The tournament will end at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Free Adult Chess Lessons: Chess coaches will provide free lessons to adults in the gymnasium between 10:45 a.m.-12 p.m.

Prizes: Medals awarded to the top 3 finishers in each division and participation awards will be given to all players.

Location: Colfax Elementary is located at 1526 Tennyson St, Denver 80204. The main entrance in on Tennyson, a half block north of Colfax Ave. The tournament will take place in the cafeteria. Colfax’s phone number is 720-424-8740.

Lunch: Snacks, fruit, and juice will be sold during the tournament.

Supervision: All children required to have adult supervision. Tournament directors will supervise the tournament area.
